Allegations of theft at Eugene care facility leave patient in agony

EUGENE, Ore. – A Eugene nurse faces serious charges after allegedly stealing pain medication from an elderly resident at a local care facility.

Meagan Elizabeth Johnson was charged with criminal mistreatment and theft on Thursday. She worked at River Run Place, an assisted living facility in Eugene, where the incident reportedly occurred. Court records reveal that the victim, a new resident, arrived at the facility on Jan. 16 with a prescription for oxycodone to manage pain from a spinal fusion. Johnson allegedly pocketed the medication during the admission process, according to witnesses. A medical technician witnessed the event, but Johnson allegedly instructed her to claim the victim arrived with no medication and to provide a topical pain gel instead.

Later, Johnson allegedly texted the technician, admitting the medication was in her car and instructed her to “stick to the story” that no medication accompanied the victim…
