Historian Corey Rogers exudes passion for Augusta history through lens of the Black Experience | January CBE365 Affirmation Award Winner

WJBF – When it comes to gaining an understanding about Augusta’s vast history, Historian Corey Rogers is the one to go to.

Rogers serves as the executive director of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, which is a prominent landmark in the city of Augusta, and through his shining example, he is making sure residents know that the Black Experience is very prominent when it comes to Augusta’s history.

“I think that we undersell in Augusta just how important our history and culture is in the city,” says Rogers. “Often people hear me say The Lucy Craft Laney Museum tells the stories of Augusta. Just seen through the prism of the black experience. So these are stories that are meant for everyone. So when you come to the Laney Museum, you come to get a piece, a slice of what Augusta’s history is all about. We are indispensable.”

Rogers also works with the Greater Augusta Arts Council and the Augusta Housing Authority in adding murals in several areas in the CSRA, including the Golden Blocks…
