FEMA is sending $1.9 million to the City of Buffalo to reimburse the city for what it spent on emergency protective measures carried out during the 2022 Christmas blizzard.
The funding comes as part of $56 million in funding to support recovery for past disasters in New York for Public Assistance projects, which includes emergency protective measures and the repair or replacement of public infrastructure damaged by recent disasters.
The 2022 blizzard featured hurricane force winds, dropped several feet of snow across Western New York and claimed the lives of more than 50 people. More than 600 people were rescued during the blizzard and more than 104,000 residents lost power.
