The real ‘Roofman’ to join WBTV True Crime Carolinas for exclusive prison interview

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Jeffrey Manchester, the man known as “Roofman,” says there are no excuses for the things he’s done.

Those things date back to 26 years ago, when he broke into and robbed two McDonald’s in Gaston County by cutting a hole in the roof. But he didn’t stay behind bars. He escaped from prison and hid in plain sight at a Toys R Us in Charlotte.

“I had had it in my mind that I was so smart that I can’t possibly get caught,” Manchester said over the phone from his prison cell at Central Prison in Raleigh. “I had everything planned out. I was a fool, obviously, and I did get caught.”…
