BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – City officials are working toward an emergency vote to help residents struggling with rising gas bills, as customers continue to voice frustration over increased costs.
The Baton Rouge Metro Council is expected to consider approving the city’s LIHEAP program contract at an upcoming emergency meeting. The program, funded by the state’s housing corporation, currently has about $4 million available, with $1 million designated to help low-income households pay gas bills regardless of their gas provider.
“We’re working towards next council meeting, doing an emergency introduction and vote so that we can immediately start these new applications and start reimbursing as soon as possible,” said Kelly LeDuff, director of community development for the mayor’s office.
