MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4) — District Attorney Sim Gill announced his office would not be filing charges against officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man armed with a small knife.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on May 23, 2025, Dustin Pearson, 32, called police claiming that he had been robbed outside of Sportsman’s Wherehouse near 160 West and 7200 South. Police later arrived on scene where an incident ensued that ended with Pearson being fatally shot by the responding officers.
911 Call
In a phone call to police dispatch, Pearson reported that he had been robbed by a man outside the store. He can be heard on the call saying that the suspect was still nearby. However, video footage shows no robbery occurred.
“He took my wallet and stuff,” Pearson is heard saying over the 911 call. “I actually think he’s still here.”…
