Memories of Roland Steadham bring smiles to members of Idaho’s aviation community

EMMETT, Idaho (CBS2) — The Emmett Municipal Airport is home to a tight-knit aviation community now grieving two members who perished in a small plane crash just minutes after taking off from the airport’s runway, CBS2 Chief Meteorologist Roland Steadham and Dallin Laufenberg.

CBS2 was invited to see Roland’s plane, which was still in his rented hangar, and hear some of their memories of time spent with him.

  • Joe Dory, who knew Roland for 15 years, said he often picked on Roland because he made it easy. “It was all in fun. He knew I respected how he flew and the pilot that he was and the person that he was,” Dory said. “He was a joy to fly with.”
