Russell County man sentenced to 80 years in prison for 2019 fire deaths of elderly couple

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WRBL) — A Russell County man was sentenced to 80 years in prison Friday morning for the 2019 deaths of an elderly couple that had befriended him.

Ricky Mack Morris received two 40-year-sentences from Circuit Court Judge Zack Collins for the deaths of Abner Garnto, 80, and his wife, Martha Garnto, 79. The judge ordered the sentences to be served consecutively, giving the 66-year-old Morris 80 years in an Alabama prison.
