Longtime Columbus State head cheer coach and athletic director announces plans to retire

COLUMBUS, GA. (WRBL) — Longtime Columbus State head cheer coach and senior associate athletic director, Jimbo Davis, has announced he will retire later this year in May.

Davis got his start at Columbus State as a student, where he served as CSU’s mascot, Cody the cougar. He later took over the cheer program in 1994, leading the cheer team to its first Peach Belt Conference title, ending his career with 24.

He has also led the Cougars to five national titles, earning them in 2004, 2005, 2008, 2011, and 2014, along with two Coed Partner Stunts National Champion titles. For the past 25 years, his teams have been in the top five at College Nationals, listed among the nation’s Top 50 Collegiate Cheer Programs. Davis has also led the CSU’s Dance Team to six conference titles…
