Hall authorities: Road conditions deteriorating amid snowfall

Hall County authorities are advising residents to use caution and avoid travel unless necessary as a winter weather system continues to pour snow in the area Saturday.

Snow began falling in Hall County some time after 6:00 a.m., but has continued well into the late-morning hours, causing rapid accumulation and deteriorating road conditions. Hall County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer B.J. Williams said authorities have already seen several accidents from drivers not properly accounting for the conditions.

“We have a number of vehicles that have already slid off of hilly roadways, and they are not able to get out of those ditches and off of those snowy roadways themselves,” Williams said. “It’s a little bit difficult for those wreckers to travel as well, so it’s taking some additional time for them to respond.”

Williams said authorities are advising residents to avoid traveling during the snowfall, and potentially in the immediate hours afterwards, as below-freezing temperatures are expected to continue with an Extreme Cold Warning in effect from the National Weather Service (NWS) from 7:00 p.m. Saturday though 1:00 p.m. Sunday…
