Southwest Florida town of Ave Maria hit with measles outbreak

An outbreak of measles is occurring in Ave Maria and people are scrambling to get tested.

“I can confirm there are active cases in the town of Ave Maria,” Kristie Jacobsen, a registered nurse at the Mater Dei Clinic in Ave Maria, said late Friday. Ave Maria is in eastern Collier County.

Jacobsen could not say how many cases have been confirmed; the clinic was notified of cases in the community around 4 p.m. Thursday…
