New tech aims to end long lines at Monroe County DMVs

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Monroe County officials announced Friday that all four county Department of Motor Vehicles branches will launch a new appointment and customer queuing system on Monday, aiming to eliminate long lines and modernize the check‑in process.

Speaking at the Downtown Rochester DMV on East Main Street, Romeo said the new system, developed in partnership with technology company QLess, will replace the traditional take‑a‑number method with electronic check‑ins, mobile alerts and real‑time instructions for customers.

“When people come into the DMVs, things are going to change a little bit,” Romeo said. “You’re going to check in at an electronic station, similar to what you’d see at a bank or a Spectrum store. You’ll say whether you’re walking in or have an appointment, and then you’ll take a seat and wait to be called.”…
