The breakout star of the Sundance Film Festival is an 8-year-old girl from San Francisco.
Mason Reeves is the title star of “Josephine,” a movie shot in the city that has swept the top awards in the U.S Dramatic competition — the jury prize and audience award for best film.
The awards ceremony on Friday, Jan. 30, in Park City, Utah, is a triumph for writer-director Beth de Araújo, a San Francisco native; SFFilm, which supported the film through its 12-year journey to screen with three types of financial assistance; and Film SF, the city’s film commission, which helped facilitate the multi-million-dollar shoot.
Despite the presence of stars Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan, it’s Reeves, who de Araújo discovered at a Richmond District farmer’s market on Clement Street, who captured the hearts of festival viewers…
