Six families displaced after apartment fire on Berger Place in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Six families have been displaced after an apartment fire on Berger Place in Newport News Saturday morning, according to the Newport News Fire Department.

On Jan. 31 at 8:15 a.m., the department responded to the 0 block of Berger Place for a report of an apartment fire. Upon arriving by around 8:18 a.m., units saw smoke coming from a two-story apartment building. Crews commenced an aggressive interior attack on the fire, which was located in the attic. Firefighters later determined all residents had made it out of the building safely.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The six displaced families are now being assisted by the American Red Cross. Eight apartments will be condemned.
