Bonham Exchange expected the city to shut it down, but the club got a 5-day reprieve

The general manager of the Bonham Exchange and its attorneys spent Saturday morning worried that the city of San Antonio would shut down the iconic gay nightclub at 2:15 a.m. Sunday for a lack of required fire sprinklers — but the historic downtown venue got a five-day reprieve.

Nightclubs, bars and restaurants that serve or allow alcohol and have occupancy limits higher than 300 visitors must have fire sprinklers under city regulations approved in 2018.

For the past several months, the Bonham Exchange and the city have been trying to hammer out an agreement that would allow the club to remain open with some restrictions while the owner installs a sprinkler system. But the two sides haven’t been able to agree on an occupancy limit…
