TV anchor exits and reporter shake-ups that rocked Texas stations in January

The new year started strong right out the gate as announcements of shake-ups, major life moments and promotions swirled at TV stations in San Antonio and across the Lone Star State. From love stories to anchors returning to the city, here are just a few of the headlines you may have missed.

KSAT 12 adds reporter Madalynn Lambert to ‘Good Morning San Antonio’

In the new year, San Antonians said hello to a fresh face. Alamo City native Madalynn Lambert joined KSAT’s Good Morning San Antonio team as a reporter on January 1. The 2024 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin told MySA the new role, which she moved into from her spot as a news trainee at the station, was a “full circle moment.”

“It is truly such an honor,” Lambert said. “I’ve always said that it’s really a privilege to be a reporter. It’s a privilege to be there for someone on their worst day and tell their story. And like, when someone is going through the worst, and they’re willing to open up to you, it’s truly such a privilege.”

KENS 5’s Ryan Shoptaugh goes regional, but he’s staying in San Antonio

After his new role was announced in December 2025, KENS 5 meteorologist Ryan Shoptaugh moved into his TEGNA regional meteorologist gig early this month. All that means is he’ll be helping fill in as needed at TEGNA stations across Texas and the South while he remains based in San Antonio.
