Shenendehowa became the first Section 2 boys’ wrestling team to reach the final of the NYSPHSAA dual meet championships, but fell 42-21 to Massapequa of Section 8 in the championship match on Saturday at SRC Arena in Syracuse.
Prior to Saturday, no Section 2 team in either Division 1 or Division 2 had advanced to a state final in the eight previous editions of the state duals.
In the championship dual, Massapequa — which had advanced to the final thanks to a dramatic 31-30 win over defending state champion Minisink Valley — won six of the first seven matches and eventually led 31-8 with five weight classes remaining…
