ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland lawmakers are considering legislation that would require members of condominium and homeowners association governing bodies to complete mandatory training on their legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
House Bill 502 would require certain members of boards of directors and officers of condominium councils, as well as members of homeowners association governing bodies, to successfully complete a training curriculum covering governance, financial oversight and state housing laws. The requirement would apply to residential for-sale housing communities.
Under the bill, board members and officers would be required to complete the training within 90 days of being elected or appointed. Individuals already serving when the law takes effect would be required to complete the training at the start of a subsequent term.
