An unlicensed pool contractor who ripped off a customer is in trouble after failing to pay restitution in the case.
Edward Gura, 67, of Summerfield, was booked this past week at the Marion County Jail.
In 2022, the New Jersey native was charged with contracting without a license and theft from a person over the age of 65.
A woman gave Gura a check for $5,500 for a pool restoration project at her home. He cashed the check but did not show up to perform the work. When the woman finally tracked him down, he said he was “too busy with other jobs,” according to an arrest report. He later claimed he spent the $5,500 to pay property taxes “because his wife hadn’t paid them in five years, and they were going to lose their house.” Gura had previously told the pool restoration customer that his wife was dead…
