ASHEBORO, N.C. — A 19-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder following a fatal stabbing in Asheboro, according to the Asheboro Police Department.
Officers responded to a welfare check at an apartment in the 100 block of East Academy Street around 9:02 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived at the scene, officers found 31-year-old Mary Smith dead from multiple stab wounds, police said.
Authorities said patrol officers located and detained a suspect walking a few blocks from the apartment shortly after the discovery.
