Clerk, suspect critically injured in shootout at Jacksonville business

Jacksonville police say both a store clerk and a suspect were hospitalized with critical injuries following a double shooting at an Lakeshore shopping center.

The clerk — a man in his early 20s — was shot in the chest about 12:45 p.m. Jan. 31 while trying to stop someone from stealing at one of the businesses in the 4500 block of Shirley Avenue, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The clerk was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department first responders.

A short time later, a man — also in his early 20s — with a critical gunshot wound to the abdomen arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said. No names were released…
