Olive Branch Pedestrian Killed in Freight Train Horror Near Old Towne

A 54‑year‑old Olive Branch man, identified by authorities as Michael Mayer, was struck and killed by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train Thursday morning near Highway 178 and Old Goodman Road, not far from Old Towne. The train’s conductor flagged down officers just before 9:30 a.m., and emergency responders treated Mayer at the scene. He was pronounced dead by the coroner, and BNSF Railroad Police have opened an investigation into the fatal strike.
