A Leesburg man was arrested on battery charges after allegedly punching and strangling his female partner while intoxicated.
A deputy responded to a domestic violence call involving 65-year-old Donald Ray Brooks at a residence on Granada Lane in Leesburg at 8:20 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Brooks’ partner advised that the incident happened the night before while they were drinking alcohol on her back porch. He became violent and punched her multiple times on her face, chest, shoulders and stomach for 30 to 45 minutes. He also strangled her, causing difficulty breathing and near loss of consciousness, the report said.
She added Brooks did not live with her and left the residence after the incident. She delayed reporting it due to drinking alcohol but contacted law enforcement the following morning.
