Fake child death scam in Palm Springs intersection leads to 2 arrests

Police in Palm Springs are warning drivers about a growing roadside scam after officers arrested two people accused of lying about a child’s death to collect money from motorists.

According to the Palm Springs Police Department, officers responded Jan. 28 to reports of several individuals stepping into traffic at the intersection of Ramon Road and San Luis Rey Drive while holding signs with photos of a young child.

The group told drivers the child had died and that they were seeking donations to help cover funeral expenses…
