Snuggles, ‘zoomies:’ How Zoo Tampa’s animals ride out icy weather

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Not all of Tampa Bay’s residents can reach for the mittens and hot cocoa during a winter storm, so Zoo Tampa zookeepers are cranking the heat to give animals a warm place to rest this weekend.

“A lot of our animals are used to our Florida weather so this is a bit of a shock for them – kind of like it is for even us non-Floridians,” said Heather Pye, hoof stock curator for Zoo Tampa.

The Zoo’s exhibits explore wildlife from Africa, Australia and other lands which are much warmer than Tampa right now. The icy weather has the zoo looking a little different – and a little emptier…
