Maynard Man Charged with Assault to Murder and Firearm Offenses Following Standoff with Police

A Maynard man faces a slew of charges, including assault to murder, after police responded to a distress call at a local apartment complex. The Maynard Police Department announced the arrest of the 48-year-old for his involvement in an incident that included firearm threats and physical assault against an elderly resident.

According to a detailed account by the Maynard Police Department, the assault occurred on Jan. 28 in the evening, when the suspect allegedly tried to strangle the victim and later threatened them and others in the building with a handgun.

When officers arrived at the scene, the man reportedly refused to vacate the premises, leading to a standoff. The situation was ultimately defused when Maynard Police convinced the perpetrator to surrender peacefully. “This incident underscores the professionalism, restraint, and high level of training demonstrated by our officers.
