Norman residents should expect traffic impacts as the city moves into the next phase of the Gray Street Two-Way Conversion Project. Beginning Wednesday, James Garner Avenue will be closed from Daws Avenue to Gray Street and extending to Main Street to allow for paving work. Gray Street will remain open, but traffic near the intersection will be reduced to one westbound lane. The intersection of James Garner Avenue and Gray Street will undergo reconstruction, including temporary pavement to connect the new layout to the existing roadway. The City of Norman estimates this phase will last about 30 days, and motorists are advised to follow posted detours. Access to Andrews Park and the City Municipal Complex will remain available via Daws Street.
The Gray Street project is part of the 2019 voter-approved bond program, which funds multiple transportation improvements across the city. Work on Gray Street includes converting it from one-way to two-way traffic, along with new sidewalks, decorative lighting, and enhanced pedestrian safety features.
