Michigan’s official groundhog just made her prediction and winter isn’t going anywhere

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI – In just 30 quiet seconds the fate of our weather was in the furry paws of Michigan’s Official Groundhog, Woody. Temperatures sat around 13 degrees this morning with a steady snow and Woody did not choose to emerge – more winter for Michigan.

In stark contrast to the fanfare of Gobbler’s Knob in Pennsylvania, the Michigan tradition at the Howell Nature Center celebration maintains a calm atmosphere for their resident rodent meteorologist.

Woody, the groundhog (also known as a woodchuck) was given the choice this morning to stay inside her shelter or take in the crisp February air. Woody took a moment, snow falling in the frigid air, then turned back inside.
