Melting snow, salt leaves 1,100 customers in Brooklyn neighborhood with power outages

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — Braving the brutal cold is even more difficult for people around the Boerum Hill/Park Slope neighborhood in Brooklyn, dealing with power outages and, in some cases, no heat since Saturday.

According to Con Edison, over 1,500 customers are dealing with outages as of 6 p.m. Sunday after underground system issues caused by melting snow and salt.

The Con Edison website now has the estimated time of restoration at 7 a.m. Monday.

“No power. No heat. My wife, she got blankets up to this high,” said resident Luis Villaneuva. “The room temperature is reading on the thermostat 54 degrees.”…
