Madison County family shares experience starting homestead

GURLEY, Ala. (WHNT) — North Alabama is home to many farmers, and this area continues to draw in people who are looking to start fresh.

Starting a new way of living can be challenging, but it’s something Melissa and Matthew Harman took head-on.

Melissa and Matthew moved to their homestead in May of 2021. They let what was on the land grow for about nine months just to see what it was already producing.
