Winter storm claims 21 in Tennessee; state of emergency remains activated

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Tennessee Department of Health reports 21 weather-related deaths in the winter storm as the state remains in a state of emergency.

The winter storm arrived in Middle Tennessee Saturday, bringing freezing temperatures, snow and icy conditions leaving thousands without power, one week later.

The weather-related deaths are in the following counties:

  • One fatality in Cheatham
  • Three fatalities in Davidson
  • One fatality in Fayette
  • Two fatalities in Hardin
  • One fatality in Haywood
  • Two fatalities in Henderson
  • Two fatalities Hickman
  • One fatality in Knox
  • Two fatalities in Obion
  • Six fatalities in Shelby

In Nashville, city officials reported four suspected weather-related deaths, and authorities are investigating a fifth potential storm-related death.

Level-3 State of Emergency
