TOLEDO, Ohio — While many people stayed indoors to escape the cold, more than 70 scouts from northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan spent the weekend outside at Camp Miakonda, taking part in the annual Winter Campout event designed to teach winter survival, teamwork and leadership skills.
Nine different scout troops gathered at one of the oldest scout camps in the country, braving freezing temperatures and snow as they rotated through more than a dozen challenges focused on outdoor preparedness and cooperation.
