MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect this morning with single-digit temperatures and dangerous wind chills. Winds aren’t as strong as yesterday, but temperatures are colder—especially inland. We’re likely breaking record lows at all three NWS sites:
- North Myrtle Beach: 20°
- Florence: 18°
- Lumberton: 11° (Lumberton was down to 8 before 5 a.m., so new record!
For Groundhog Day, expect plenty of sunshine, but it will stay colder than normal. Highs only reach the upper 30s. We saw significant melting yesterday, but not everything dried out—so watch for slush and black ice, especially during the morning commute.
Along the beaches, sunshine and slightly warmer temps should melt what’s left of the snow. Inland areas like Lumberton and Lake View, where more than a foot of snow fell over the weekend, will likely hold onto some of that snow through Tuesday.
Highs on Tuesday climb into the upper 40s, at least 10 degrees warmer than today. A few showers arrive Tuesday night as a cold front moves in. Rain continues through much of Wednesday…
