Shelters provide relief from cold in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The dangerously cold temperatures prompted counties across Mississippi to take action to protect the most vulnerable.

Shelters opened their doors to those in need. In Hinds County, Shower Power opened an emergency winter shelter.

“The need has just been tremendous. So, temperatures have just been almost unprecedented. And people being out in the cold right now without anything to protect them, could easily, easily die. It’s the last cold spell we actually had. An individual that did not want to come inside into the shelter. He stayed out that night, and he didn’t make it through the evening,” said Charles Elliot, with Shower Power…
