JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – The space shuttle Columbia broke apart during its return to Earth on February 1, 2003.

It happened over East Texas. Sixteen minutes from landing, killing all seven crew members.

Foam from the fuel tank broke off during launch and damaged Columbia’s left wing, compromising its thermal protection system…
