ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Wheels Museum in Downtown Albuquerque is getting ready for a big expansion, as the organization continues to get donations and is running out of space to display them. The 1914-built storehouse of the historic Santa Fe Railyards is full of life treasures and memorabilia, ranging from trains, planes, and automobiles.
“Almost every day we get items exhibited, and we are bursting at the seams, and we need space for it,” Wheels Museum President Leba Freed said. “We do not want to turn anyone down. People give us their life treasures of what they’ve collected, and I do not want to say no to them.”
For years, they’ve been looking at nearby buildings to expand to, and finally, the city gave them an answer. “The city has offered us another building on the property, it’s the Babbot and Welding Shop originally,” Freed said.
