Furloughs, program cuts and impacts to public safety: agencies respond to JFAC memo

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The possibility of significant furloughs and reduction in services are laid out in agency responses to the co-chairs of the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee. After being requested to submit new plans for potential additional budget cuts.

A memo sent out to state agencies Wednesday night on behalf of JFAC co-chairs Sen. C. Scott Grow and Rep. Josh Tanner of the same legislative district in Eagle, requests plans be submitted that consider the possibility of an additional 1% and 2% budget cut to fiscal years 2026 and 2027. Responses were due by noon, Friday, Jan. 30.

Agencies who have responded so far include the Idaho Department of Education, Idaho State Board of Education, the Division of Idaho Career Technical Education, Idaho State Police and Idaho Department of Corrections. A submission from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare has yet to come out…
