Kitchen fire engulfs rural Newberg home

A rural home east of Newberg went up in flames Saturday night after a fire first reported in the kitchen spread to the rest of the house, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said.

A caller reported that the home on Old Parrett Mountain Road was ablaze just before 8 p.m., firefighters said. Fire crews had to truck water up a narrow, half-mile driveway to reach the house.

The home’s residents managed to get out safely, firefighters said, but one person was injured after they went back inside to try and rescue a cat. That person was evaluated at a nearby hospital, firefighters said…
