Augusta commission scheduled to make decision on future maintenance of city

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Despite the chill, the Riverwalk is seeing visitors, and one out-of-towner said looking good is important.“Overall, I can say it’s a beautiful area, beautiful area, more trimming and more cleaning because I see the trees falling around, but it’s a beautiful area,” Andria Georgiou from Cypress.The job of sweeping leaves at the Riverwalk belongs to the Park Department, but taking care of cemeteries is a different department. Landscaping at government buildings is another different department.Overgrown abandoned lots, yes, that’s a different department.Right of ways? Another city department.That’s why some Commissioners say it’s time for a new vegetation maintenance department.“It would beautify Augusta to have one department instead of a bunch of different departments going out there and zigzag cutting. It just makes sense to have one department,” said Commissioner Catherine Smith Rice.But some want to cut growing grass without growing…..
