Charlottesville considers honorary street name for late Mel’s Cafe owner

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville City Council is set to discuss giving a road an honorary name after the late Mel Walker, whose impact went far beyond the walls of his cafe.

Giving the portion of West Main Street between 8th Street Northwest and 7th Street Northwest a honorary name.

The stretch of road outside Walker’s former restaurant could be designated “Mel’s Walk” to honor the longtime owner of Mel’s Cafe, who passed away in 2024. Walker operated the restaurant for more than 39 years…
