Hall Co. Schools issues statement amid calls for student walkouts to protest ICE

The Hall County School District has issued a response amid ongoing calls for student walkouts protesting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in various school systems.

According to the district, a group of students at West Hall High School left class during the school day Friday, Jan. 30, in response to a nationwide call on social media for protests. Additionally, a group of students at Flowery Branch High School walked to the school’s stadium after dismissal on Thursday, Jan. 29, HCSD confirmed.

“Because of time constraints, our immediate priority was ensuring student safety and preventing escalation,” a statement from Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield said. “While we respect the First Amendment rights of students and staff, our responsibility is to maintain a safe, orderly learning environment for everyone.”
