Gas Prices Fluctuate Amid Major Winter Storm

AAA says the winter storm that wreaked havoc on most of the nation has led to supply disruptions and has impacted gas prices with slight fluctuations at the pump. Nationally, the average price at the pump decreased by a fraction of a penny since last Monday and is now $2.88 per gallon. New York State’s average increased by nearly two cents to $2.99. Meanwhile, Chautauqua County saw more significant movement in its average, which dropped almost six cents to $3.17. One year ago, the national and statewide averages were $3.10 and $3.17, respectively.

According to AAA, below-freezing temperatures and lingering snow have disrupted some crude production and refinery operations, while gasoline demand increased pre-storm as drivers filled up their tanks ahead of the severe winter weather. Those factors have led to a rise at the pump recently…
