FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT)— February 2, 2026 is now officially recognized as John Nuckols Day in Fort Wayne.
Mayor Sharon Tucker signed a proclamation Monday honoring Nuckols, the city’s first Black city councilman and a longtime civil rights advocate.
The proclamation was presented during a ceremony at the Fort Wayne Urban League that also included the unveiling of a bust honoring his legacy.
The bust was donated by the family of the artist Hector Marcia and will be permanently displayed in the Urban League’s conference room.
