A young girl from the Nutmeg State has a chance to be top dog at the 150th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City.
Michayla Hopkins, an 11-year-old from Plainfield, will show a dog during the competition in New York City on Tuesday. The show brings thousands of competitors and their pups together each year to compete in various categories. Prizes include ribbons and trophies.
Hopkins will show a 3-year-old Vizsla named Sunny during the Best of Breed presentation at the show, she said. While Sarah Crepeau, a professional handler, usually shows Sunny, this year she asked Hopkins to take her place. Hopkins describes the dog’s personality as being a very “silly girl.” She said regardless of the outcome, she is excited for the experience.
“(Sunny’s) personality is really fun,” Hopkins said. “(We’re preparing for the show) by grooming and practicing. It’s kind of a mental preparation.”…
