Lansing official who led efforts to address region’s homelessness problem resigns

LANSING — The city official leading the effort to develop a pod community to address the region’s homelessness problem has resigned, but an official said that shouldn’t further prolong plans for the 50 structures that has been delayed previously but is expected to open this fall.

Kimberly Coleman, who has resigned as director of the city’s Human Relations and Community Services Department, plans to continue working on the city’s homelessness plans and the pod housing initiative named NOVA by city officials.

She said on Jan. 27, when two advisory boards chose a location for the initiative, that she hopes the community of 50 housing pods, a resource center, and community spaces could come online in September…
