LOS ANGELES — The 68th Annual Grammy Awards was full of plenty of musical performances, with Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, and Jelly Roll taking home some of the biggest honors. But Rochester also took center stage on Sunday.
Chuck Mangione honored
The Grammys honored Chuck Mangione, the legendary Rochester jazz musician who died in July at age 84, during the In Memoriam segment.Reba McEntire, Brandy Clark, and Lukas Nelson performed the song “Trailblazer” to honor the influential musicians who have died in the past year, including Mangione.
Other late musicians honored included Ozzy Osbourne, D’Angelo, Roberta Flack, Brett James, Alan Bergman, Sheila Jordan, Roy Ayers, Jimmy Cliff, and Malcolm Jamal-Warner.
Mangione earned 14 Grammy nominations, winning two, over his career. His album “Feels So Good” became one of the most successful jazz records ever produced, according to the Rochester Music Hall of Fame. After his death, News10NBC spoke with Mangione’s family about what made him so dedicated to supporting other musicians in Rochester.
