Police: Man Charged With 5th DUI, Hit-And-Run

Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested 66-year-old Michael Elwood of Wilmington in connection with his fifth DUI-related arrest.

Officials said on Friday, January 30, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Officers responded to the 5500 block of Limerick Circle in the Pike Creek Village Apartments for a report of a vehicle stuck on a snow-covered stairwell in a parking lot. Upon arrival, Officers observed a black Dodge Ram pickup truck positioned on top of a stairwell separating the upper and lower parking areas. The vehicle was lodged on top of a snowbank and stuck, with the driver, Michael Elwood, inside. While speaking with Elwood, Officers observed signs of intoxication, and after he refused to comply with commands, he was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.

While Officers were investigating this incident, another Officer was investigating a hit-and-run in the 2400 block of East Eric Drive in Wilmington’s Maplecrest community, which occurred approximately one hour earlier.
