WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The partial government shutdown is continuing into this week while the House works to pass a funding bill.
Government agencies are furloughing employees as funds dry up. In Wichita, McConnell Air Force Base said it will be furloughing nearly 500 civilian employees.
In a news release, McConnell said 395 civilian employees from the 22nd and 931st Air Refueling Wings who are not engaged in excepted activities are being furloughed. In addition, about 100 employees from the 184th Wing will be furloughed, but the exact details are still being determined.
What to know about the partial government shutdown and its impact
The base said the furloughs will likely affect customer service due to minimal staffing. For example:
- The Pass and Registration office shifts to a weekday-only schedule of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will have limited staff.
- Updated operating hours for 22nd Force Support Squadron activities will vary, and a full list is available at www.facebook.com/22arw.
- The McConnell Air Force Base website and its social media accounts will go on hiatus and not be updated for the duration of the shutdown, except for necessary information regarding operating hours for base services or emergencies.
The commissary, base exchange and shoppette remain open, with no change in operating hours. The medical and pharmacy operations will also remain open with normal hours…
