Viral Hula Toddler Steals Hearts, Teaches Viewers the True Meaning of ‘Ohana

WAIANAE, Hawaii (Island News) — Another heartwarming video of a toddler learning hula travels far beyond the practice space, viewers who might never set foot in a hālau, or hula school, are quietly introduced to that same lesson, learning the value of ‘ohana without even realizing it, one joyful stomp at a time.

“Kua loves learning new dances with the wāhine too,” his mother Kilihea Burke posted on the popular Instagram video.

The video taken Jan. 24 shows the Wahine toddler at a Hula practice with two women in traditional grass skirts in Lanikūhonua. This time Kuanoo “Kua” Burke uses two bamboo rattles used for dancing, or the pūʻili, to perform with the women in his own way. The song “Kuwili” by artist O’Brian Eselu plays in the background.
