Ocala announces road closures for CSX railroad maintenance days after toxic fire in Dunnellon

The City of Ocala has announced that a portion of NE 9th Street will close later this week to accommodate railroad crossing maintenance by CSX, just days after the rail company faced scrutiny by Marion County officials over a massive fire involving chemically-coated railroad ties.

According to city officials, the road closure and detours will be in effect from 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, until 7 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8. The closure will impact NE 9th Street, between North Magnolia Avenue and Northeast Eighth Avenue.

During the maintenance period, travelers are advised to plan ahead and use the following detour routes:

  • Eastbound Traffic: Motorists will be directed to travel north on North Magnolia Avenue, east on Bonnie Heath Boulevard, and south on Northeast Eighth Avenue to return to Northeast Ninth Street.
  • Westbound Traffic: Drivers will go north on Northeast Eighth Avenue, west on Bonnie Heath Boulevard, and south on North Magnolia Avenue to return to Northeast Ninth Street.

The maintenance project comes as CSX deals with the aftermath of a hazardous fire that erupted Sunday morning, Feb. 1, in Dunnellon…
